Getting Started with Care
How do I know if my loved one needs personal care or companion care?
If your loved one is becoming forgetful, feeling isolated, recovering from surgery, or experiencing health issues such as dementia or Alzheimer’s, they may benefit from additional support.
Choosing in-home care isn’t a compromise—it’s a proactive step toward improving their quality of life while respecting their independence
What’s the process for starting care with Kadan?
We offer a free in-home assessment by a Registered Nurse. This visit helps us understand your loved one’s needs and build a care plan that ensures comfort and confidence from the very beginning.
After the visit, we’ll work with the family to finalize care details and ensure all paperwork is in place before services begin.
Financial & Billing Questions
Who is responsible for paying caregivers and submitting insurance claims?
Kadan Homecare handles all payroll and tax documentation for our caregivers, including any required insurance coverage. We can bill the responsible party directly or submit claims to insurance companies, based on the instructions provided by the family or client.
Are tips or gifts allowed for caregivers?
Tips and gifts are not expected, and caregivers are not permitted to accept them unless Kadan has given prior approval. If a caregiver provides exceptional service and you would like to express appreciation, please contact our office. We’ll review the request and, if appropriate, authorize the gift
Who should I contact for questions about invoices, schedules, or other concerns?
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel care for the day, please notify your client experience manager at least 3 hours before the shift to avoid charges. Cancellations made with less than 3 hours of notice will be billed in full.
To suspend care indefinitely, contact your assigned client experience manager to guide you through the process
Are your services covered by long-term care insurance or veterans’ benefits?
Yes. We work with most long-term care insurance providers and can help you understand and submit claims. We can also assist clients who may qualify for veterans’ benefits, such as Aid and Attendance.
Is there a minimum number of service hours required per shift or per week?
Yes. To ensure consistent care and caregiver availability, Kadan requires a minimum of 6 hours per shift. We can discuss weekly minimums during the initial consultation, depending on your loved one’s needs.
Are your caregivers employees or independent contractors?
All Kadan caregivers are employees, not independent contractors. This means we handle all payroll, taxes, insurance, and workers’ compensation. Families don’t assume any liability related to employment.
Scheduling & Service Changes
How do I make changes to the schedule or level of care?
We’re happy to adjust care plans to meet your needs. To avoid unnecessary charges and ensure availability, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance of any changes.
Please do not coordinate schedule changes directly with caregivers—let our office oversee the change to ensure everything is documented properly.
- Minor adjustments (like adding transportation or help with hygiene) can often be made right away.
- For major changes, we may recommend a new in-home assessment to ensure the best caregiver match.
What happens if a caregiver can’t make their scheduled shift?
While our caregivers are dependable and understand the importance of punctuality, emergencies can happen. If a caregiver is unavailable, we will immediately assign a qualified replacement.
Do you offer overnight or live-in care?
Yes, Kadan offers both overnight care and live-in services. These are especially helpful for clients who need support during the night or around-the-clock supervision for safety and peace of mind.
Is someone available after hours in case of emergency?
Yes. Kadan provides 24/7 on-call support to handle emergencies, last-minute schedule changes, or concerns that arise outside of business hours.
Caregiver Assignment & Consistency
Will my loved one have the same caregiver, or will they change often?
We strive for consistency and aim to schedule a regular team of caregivers to rotate shifts. This provides your loved one with familiarity while offering the benefit of multiple caregivers’ insights and skills.
If you have a preferred caregiver, we’ll try to schedule them as often as possible. Note that caregivers working more than 40 hours per week will be billed at a time-and-a-half rate.
What if we’re not comfortable with the assigned caregiver?
If you or your loved one is not satisfied with a caregiver, we will replace them without hesitation. All Kadan caregivers are bonded and thoroughly vetted, but your comfort and trust are our top priorities.
How do you match a caregiver to a client?
We use a personalized matching process that considers a client’s needs, preferences, personality, and schedule. Our client experience managers also evaluate the caregiver’s experience and skill set to ensure a strong fit.
Will I have a consistent care manager or point of contact?
Yes. Each client is assigned a dedicated client experience manager who serves as your primary point of contact. They oversee the care plan, manage communication, and ensure satisfaction throughout the care relationship.
Caregiver Qualifications & Oversight
What kind of training do Kadan caregivers receive?
Caregivers go through a comprehensive training program led by Registered Nurses and HR professionals. This includes two full days of training before beginning work and ongoing education to ensure top-quality care.
How does Kadan ensure caregivers are qualified and trustworthy?
Our HR team conducts extensive background and employment checks on every applicant. We also evaluate each candidate’s experience, training, and character.
Kadan is a drug-free workplace, and caregiver performance is reviewed regularly. As a family-owned business, we look beyond resumes—we hire caregivers who are both skilled and compassionate.
How is caregiver performance monitored?
We regularly evaluate our caregivers through client feedback, supervisory visits, and annual training. Our team also stays in close contact with clients and families to ensure care remains excellent and responsive to changing needs.
Can caregivers administer medication?
Kadan caregivers can assist with medication reminders and ensure medications are taken on schedule. However, they do not administer injections or perform medical tasks unless they are licensed to do so and assigned accordingly.
Types of Services Offered
Can caregivers help with housekeeping or other non-medical tasks?
Yes, Kadan caregivers can help with light housekeeping and other non-personal services. If a request is outside our scope, we can refer you to a reputable provider.
Can services be provided in assisted living facilities or during hospital stays?
Absolutely. We can provide one-on-one care in assisted living communities, rehabilitation centers, or hospitals to ensure your loved one receives dedicated support, especially during times of transition.
What’s the difference between private duty home care and home health services?
Private duty homecare focuses on non-medical assistance, such as help with daily activities, companionship, personal care, light housekeeping, and meal preparation. Home health services, on the other hand, are typically medically prescribed, include skilled nursing or therapy, and are often covered by Medicare or insurance.
Additional Support and Referrals
Can Kadan help us find other professional services like hospice or elder law attorneys?
Yes. With more than 40 years in the Atlanta area, we’ve built strong partnerships with trusted providers across home health, hospice, elder law, assisted living, and more. We’re happy to connect you with the right resources.
