Elderly Woman with Caregiver

According to the Urban Institute, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is expected to reach 80 million in 2040, and the number of adults ages 85 and older, the group most often needing help with basic personal care, will nearly quadruple between 2000 and 2040.

To meet the needs of this growing group of older Americans, a variety of service providers are available to help seniors with everything from meals and transportation to errands and companion care. Some companies describe their services as a good fit for independent seniors who aren’t quite ready for official caregiving. One drawback to these kinds of services is that the senior may not receive the same helper each time they call, as helpers are drawn from a pool of workers based on availability.

One advantage to the type of home care offered by Kadan Homecare is the ability to connect with a regular caregiver who gets to know the senior well. There are several benefits to this approach:

Consistency
Kadan believes that a consistent and reassuring environment is important for anyone who is starting to receive companion care. Having a regular, predictable schedule lets the senior know what to expect and be able to plan their week accordingly.

Personal relationship
If a client expresses a preference for a specific caregiver, we will attempt to schedule that person as frequently as possible. Having the same caregiver allows the senior to develop a friendship with the care provider, and the caregiver gets to know the client’s likes and dislikes. Many clients develop a sense of trust and confidence that their caregiver knows what they need and how they like for things to be done.

Caregiving skills
Like other services offering companion care, Kadan Homecare caregivers can help clients with tasks such as errands, cooking, shopping or light housework. However, our highly trained caregivers are also skilled at providing assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), medication oversight, attention to chronic health conditions and physical, hands-on support if needed.

If you are interested in companion care for yourself or a loved one, Kadan Homecare would be delighted to discuss your individual needs and match you with a caregiver that’s right for you.
