Seniors, Caregivers and Families: Get Your Shot Please

While the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. isn’t resulting in the high number of infections and deaths as it did last year, it is far from over.

You might be surprised to find out that more than 60 percent of Georgians are not fully vaccinated. In fact, only 37% are fully vaccinated. The remainder of the state’s residents have received a single shot of a two-dose regimen or none at all.

Getting vaccinated, whether with a single shot or two, is the most effective way to help stem the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, according to Nancy Nydam, a spokesperson for the state’s Health Department. “People who are unvaccinated or skip their second dose of vaccine, are targets for infection,” she explained.

While the majority of vulnerable seniors are vaccinated, what is the vaccination status of those who care for them? There is simply no way to know because the federal and state agencies tracking vaccination rates do not break down their statistics by profession or employer.

If you are senior, family member or caregiver searching for a vaccination, the shots are much easier to get now than they were earlier this year. Visit the state health department’s website to make an appointment or call 1-888-457-0186 for more information.

All of us at Kadan Homecare salute the seniors, caregivers and families who have already gotten their shots. Let’s all encourage the unvaccinated to step up for their shot, too.
